Contract Available: Permanent
Hours Available: Full-Time (37 hours per week)
Location: Various locations across Northern Ireland (travel required)

We are delighted to offer an exciting RSRT Counsellor - Preceptorship Opportunity within our Right Support Right Time (RSRT) project, a transformative cross-border initiative designed to improve mental health and wellbeing, strengthen resilience and help people access the right support at the right time. 

This is a unique opportunity for qualified counsellors who are working towards professional accreditation and are passionate about supporting individuals experiencing mild to moderate mental health challenges. Through structured supervision, professional development and hands-on clinical practice, you'll be supported to grow into a fully accredited Counsellor role while making a meaningful difference in people's lives.


✨ About the Role

As an RSRT Counsellor (Preceptorship Opportunity), you will deliver evidence-based, trauma-informed counselling interventions to individuals experiencing mild to moderate mental health and psychosocial difficulties. This may include supporting people affected by anxiety, low mood, trauma-related difficulties, substance misuse and self-harming behaviours.

Working under the guidance of experienced and accredited practitioners, you will help individuals build resilience, develop practical coping strategies and work towards meaningful personal goals. You'll be part of a supportive multidisciplinary team committed to delivering safe, compassionate and person-centred care.
Upon successful completion of the preceptorship programme and achievement of the required professional accreditation, the role will progress to a Counsellor position.


🤝 What You'll Do

  • Deliver individual counselling interventions using evidence-based approaches, including CBT-informed, person-centred and motivational interviewing techniques.
  • Support individuals experiencing mild to moderate mental health and psychosocial difficulties.
  • Complete assessments and collaboratively develop counselling goals with service users.
  • Promote resilience, wellbeing and positive behavioural change.
  • Monitor progress, identify risk and contribute to safeguarding processes.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential clinical records and outcome measures.

Essential Criteria

1. Circumstances

  • To be flexible as the role may involve travelling and working at various locations and times.
  • Possess a full current driving licence and access to a car. Business Insurance will be a requirement for this post. Consideration will be given to alternative travelling proposals in respect of applicants with a disability who cannot hold a driver's licence.

2. Qualifications

  • A professional Diploma in Counselling, covering psycho-dynamic, CBT and humanistic models of intervention or a person centred approach.
  • Committed to working towards achieving full accreditation within one calendar year of taking up post.

3. Experience / Personal Attributes

  • Experience providing counselling (either paid or in a voluntary capacity), with a minimum of 300 post qualified supervised counselling hours.
  • Experience of working with adults presenting with mild to moderate mental health difficulties.
  • Demonstrates a strong understanding of the presentations of substance misuse and self-harming behaviours.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and confident application of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Motivational Interviewing (MI), within complex and diverse clinical presentations.
  • Experience or demonstrable understanding of non-abstinence, recovery-oriented approaches to substance misuse and self-harming behaviours.
  • Understanding of counselling ethics, confidentiality, and professional boundaries.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with clients with substance-related needs.
  • Understanding of risk management and safeguarding in a substance misuse context.
  • Good written, verbal, and IT skills to enable accurate clinical documentation and reporting.
